Between May 22-26 2023, students and alumni from the Global EMBA programme were finally able to take their academic journey back onto the world stage. Travelling to Switzerland and Italy to immerse themselves in the world of luxury consumption, they completed the first global module to be delivered by CEIBS since the beginning of the pandemic, way back in early 2020.

A welcome return to normality, this was also an important psychological milestone for those students and alumni who attended. After almost three years of frequent disruption to their academic plans, the ability to physically get on a plane and visit another country for an exciting learning journey with their peers and professors was exactly the kind of change they needed.

Global modules are an essential part of the Global EMBA experience, as they provide much needed context and colour to business realities that must be ‘seen’ to be fully understood. Even in a global economy where so much is homogenised, students who want to grasp what makes a given country or region’s business culture unique must experience it in person. They must breathe it in and soak up the lessons it offers in a way that cannot be replicated purely through a textbook or online forum.

With student anticipation at an all-time high, the pressure was on the module’s convener, CEIBS Professor Gianfranco Siciliano, to deliver an unforgettable learning experience – a challenge he accomplished in style.

Between June 16-18, a diverse group of 46 executives, representing some of the best-known companies in the world, came to our Shanghai campus for a 3-day immersion course demonstrating the Global EMBA experience at CEIBS. This was the inaugural delivery of the Rising Leaders Programme, designed to give its attendees the chance to see first-hand what makes GEMBA a world-leading programme and a provider of life-changing academic journeys.

Keen to understand how the GEMBA programme delivers both “China Depth and Global Breadth”, these executives came together from Singapore, Australia, Holland, India, Spain, Italy, Korea, Turkey, Malaysia, the US and China. Diverse and experienced, they represent the best their respective industries have to offer, with each individual averaging 15 years of working experience and 9 years of management experience between them.

On June 1, CEIBS Global EMBA Interschool Club collaborated with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Alumni Association (Shanghai Chapter) to hold an event designed to explore the widespread applications of ChatGPT and AI in Business. Held at the CEIBS Lujiazui International Institute of Finance, 75 students and alumni participated, representing a wide range of industries and sectors – all of which have a vested interest in understanding the future direction of these world-changing technologies.

Nearly 130 CEIBS Global EMBA students from 18 countries and regions across the world came together this weekend for the biggest graduation ceremony in the programme’s history. 

How will China, with its global aspirations and expanding reach, maintain the delicate balance of strengthening its economy, reputation, technological proficiency and key trading partnerships, without sacrificing one over the other? More specifically, what will this balancing act mean for individual businesses looking to expand into or outwards from China? These are the questions that brought CEIBS students, professors and guest speakers together last month for a brand-new Global EMBA course – China and the World.

In any disaster, time is of the essence, and the speed of the response is as important as the scale. Seized by the need to act, members of the GEMBA 2022 class came together to pool their resources, networks and skill sets to create a highly targeted relief fund effort. Their aim was to transform collected donations into a tangible source of aid for the survivors, one that could make a small but timely difference.
