The Inaugural OBHDP Paper Development Workshop Held Successfully
China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) successfully held the inaugural OBHDP Paper Development Workshop (PDW) at its Shanghai campus on 21 May 2026. This marked the first PDW hosted by the prestigious FT50 journal Organisational Behaviour and Human Decision Processes (OBHDP) in Asia in recent years and stands as one of the largest academic events ever organised by the CEIBS Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management (OBHRM) group. The workshop drew hundreds of participants from across Asia, including the Chinese mainland, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia and other regions. It brought together world-renowned journal editors-in-chief, associate editors, senior scholars and promising young researchers to advance high-quality academic research and exchanges in organisational behaviour, human resource management, applied psychology, marketing and consumer behaviour.
Against the backdrop of rapid changes in the global workplace, market landscape and organisational management models, research in organisational behaviour and human resources faces emerging opportunities and challenges. This one-day intensive workshop focused on three core objectives: advancing theoretical innovation, enhancing methodological rigour, and optimising academic writing and submission strategies for top-tier journals. It provided participants with face-to-face, tailored guidance to refine their ongoing research projects, strengthen manuscript structure and arguments, and improve their readiness and competitiveness for submission to OBHDP and other leading international journals.
CEIBS Co-President (European) Frank Bournois delivered welcome remarks and officially opened the workshop. He extended warm greetings to all distinguished editors, scholars and participants, and noted the significance of hosting the OBHDP PDW at CEIBS in fostering academic development across the Asia-Pacific region. Following President Bournois, Professor Hao Zhao, representing the CEIBS OBHRM Department, delivered a speech, introducing the department’s disciplinary structure, research strengths, faculty resources and academic achievements, showcasing CEIBS’ profound expertise and international influence in organisational behaviour and human resource management.
The workshop featured a high-level keynote address by Professor Mike Baer and Professor Maryam Kouchaki, Editors-in-Chief of OBHDP, who shared valuable insights on journal positioning, publication standards and key elements of high-impact papers. The keynote was followed by an expert panel discussion. Distinguished panellists included Mike Baer, Maryam Kouchaki, Ioannis Evangelidis, Anthony Klotz, Ning Li, Krishna Savani, Kenneth Tai and Luke Zhu. They shared practical experience on manuscript review, responding to revision requests (R&Rs), journal expectations and academic communication, and encouraged more Chinese and Asian scholars to actively engage in peer review to contribute to the global academic community.
In the afternoon, two consecutive and in-depth paper development workshop sessions were held. Participants presented their working papers in small roundtable groups and received detailed, personalised feedback and constructive suggestions from senior editors and experienced researchers on research design, theoretical framework, empirical analysis and manuscript presentation. The interactive and focused sessions effectively helped participants identify areas for improvement and refine their research projects.
To conclude the event, CEIBS Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour Mai Ke from delivered closing remarks. He summarised the outcomes of the workshop and expressed sincere gratitude to all speakers, panellists, participants and supporting staff. He noted that the successful PDW not only built a high-quality platform for Asian scholars to engage directly with leading journal editors but also fully demonstrated the organisational capacity and academic cohesion of the CEIBS OBHRM team, laying a solid foundation for hosting more high-level international academic events in the future.
The workshop was widely praised by attendees for its outstanding academic quality, in-depth exchanges, practical guidance and inspiring academic atmosphere. As the first OBHDP PDW in Asia in recent years and the largest event hosted by the CEIBS OBHRM Department, this workshop has further elevated CEIBS’ international academic influence in organisational behaviour and human resource management. It has established a high-level, global exchange platform for scholars in the Asia-Pacific region and set an important milestone in promoting rigorous research, strengthening international academic co-operation and nurturing the growth of young researchers.
